Happy Mother’s Day to My Wife, Her First

13 May

I wanted to take a quick minute and wish her a happy mother’s day, a very special day considering the long and bumpy road it has taken to get to this point. Over the past 5 years (since we decided to try and grow a family) I have seen a young woman turn into one heck of a mature mother. I was never really worried that she wouldn’t have the ability and love capacity to take care of a child. My main concern was if she could make up for my serious deficiencies in those departments. In just a few weeks we will have had our sweet Zoey for a year; we travelled to Korea as a scared couple and left as a scared husband and a super-strong wife/mom.

The last twelve months have had their ups and downs with Zoey, saying it has been easy would be a cop-out and only needed if I was writing a fairy-tale novel. Thankfully I had standing next to me the best woman that I could ever hope to help raise my child. She is strong, independent, brave, and every other adjective that I could think of to describe a great mother. Growing up I loved my Mom deeply, she was there for me through everything and supported me through the good and the bad. Even though Zoey has yet to reach age two I see those characteristics in Lauren. She has been a great Mom and will be a great Mom until time ends; some people think there is a difference in the relationship and love between adopted children and biological ones, what Lauren has shown me these past months gives me the right to debate that fact with anyone, anywhere (feel free to send me an e-mail). And husbands out there, if you think life would be somehow easier raising those children (child) without your female counterpart, think again.

Lauren, I love you, we love you, you’re a great Mom and Wife – Eric and Zoey.

Week in Review: March 1st- March 7th

8 Mar

We started off this week by having Hannah over to play again. Zoey LOVES her bff Hannah and they had the best time playing together. We are just so lucky to have found Liz and Hannah and become such good friends with them. There are times when I am questioning some of my parenting moves but then I will find out Liz and Hannah are in the same boat and it makes me feel SO much better! All adoptive parents should have a friend like this!

This week we also had some major storms coming through so after work on Friday Zoey and I headed on over to my parents house since Eric was still out of town. Just in case something happened we would be somewhere with a basement and I would have a man around to dig us out of the rubble! :) Can you tell I am a little paranoid of storms now? But luckily we were very fortunate and the storms didn’t hit Birmingham like other parts of the US. So we ended up having a nice evening playing outside with my parents. But later that night Eric’s was finally home and of course on the way home from the airport we got caught in a really fast hail storm but thank goodness Eric’s car didn’t get ruined from the hail too since my car already is from previous storms! That was Zoey’s first hail experience and she loved it…she really liked playing in it when we got home too.

A big milestone around here happened this week. After months and months of trying and hours and hours of frustration and tears Zoey finally figured out how to put her shoe on by herself! That was a super huge deal to her so of course we made it a big deal with pictures, cheers, etc! It was too cute!

This weekend I also wanted to take some March pictures so we headed on out to a park in Trussville where I knew they had clovers to have Z a little mini photo shoot. I just loved the way they turned out and glad I have another months theme shoot checked off my list. You see I have this frame in my living room where I change the picture each month. I want to do this for this entire calendar year and then reuse these pics of her every year. My mom sort of did this growing up. She had several seasonal pictures in frames throughout the house and would switch them out with the holidays with our baby “christmas or easter” pics etc. And I loved seeing the pics displayed from when we were little so I hope Zoey enjoys them as much as I know I will!

This weekend my bff Dana was amazing again and got us tickets to see the off broadway production of Wicked! We had the best time getting to see this play while Eric kept Zoey.

That pretty much sums up our week other than more work and school! I hope all of you had a good week too!

Welcome to the New Blog

27 Feb

So this is why your week in review post is late! We have been busy working away on this new blog. We had to move blogs due to iWeb closing this year. But after hours and hours and hours of copy and pasting we finally have everything moved over!

I think this blog will be much easier for all of you to use. Here are some of the new features…

  • Sign up for email alerts of new blog posts in the upper right hand corner.
  • Commenting should be much easier since you can sign in via wordpress, twitter or facebook to comment.
  • And this should fix the images covering up type situation that happened with the old blog.
  • You can also search by categories and tags.

There are lots of other features I am still discovering and will get up and going soon.

Thanks again for following our blog! We look forward to keeping in touch with all of you…

Dana’s Birthday Roadtrip

16 Sep

This week was my best friend Dana’s birthday. Ever since we graduated high school we have done a road trip this time every year. This year was a little different because we had a new little tag along on our girls trip! :) But Zoey is a pro at road tripping. She loves going and being out and about and Praise the Lord she is GREAT in a car seat so traveling with her is easy.

We decided to road trip this time to Helen, GA. Dana went there growing up with her family and wanted to go back and I am very glad she chose this cute little city. Friday night we left after work so did not get checked in until pretty late. But on Saturday we woke up early and went to grab some breakfast. Dana got to witness first hand how much Zoey LOVES breakfast food. Here is what she ate…and I am not exaggerating. 2 Fried Eggs, 2 Pieces of Toast, Goldfish, Yogurt, Hashbrowns & a Waffle! See she is a eater for sure.

After breakfast we walked around downtown to shop in the cute local shops and then took Zoey back to the room for a nap while we watch the Auburn game. Zoey is very particular when it comes to sleep. Me and her have a little routine and if you alter from it then it normally throws her off. So it was SO sweet when she was going down for a nap she crawled over to Dana and fell asleep on her tummy.

After her nap we headed on over to the Cabbage Patch Hospital. I had never been before and had no idea how adoption friendly the place was. You see “mother cabbage” births all the babies in under the tree and then they are up for adoption. There were adoption offices, adoption paperwork, you rename the babies, get new birth certificate with new name. Pretty much accurately describes the adoption process in child friendly simple terms. Zoey of course was too young to really understand it but I have to admit that I did tear up a little bit. Anything adoption related still makes me cry. I just think adoption is the most wonderful thing in the world and anytime I think about the amazing process that blessed me with Zoey the happy tears always come. One day when Zoey is a bit older and starts asking more about her adoption story I plan on taking her back to the Cabbage Patch Hospital so she can adopt another baby!

After we left the hospital we took a drive around to see the beautiful scenery and take in the gorgeous sunset while Zoey napped again. Later that night we went to the North Georgia corn maze. We were expecting on stopping by for about an hour but ended up staying all night! The place was so much fun. They had movies under the stars, a nighttime hay ride (where we say 2 shooting stars), yummy food, and of course the corn maze. We did not go prepared like all the other families with headlamps and flashlights. I just assumed the maze had lights but I was wrong. So we ended up having to buy a flashlight app on the iPhone but it worked perfectly. We got lost…many, many times but after several hours in the maze we found all 6 of the stops and made our way out! But we barely made it out alive because the wind was blowing and this corn husk fell out of the sky and just about hit me on the head! Zoey did great in the carrier and loved pointing at all the stars which you could see perfectly since we were out in the country. We had the best time and want to go and find another maze for us to visit this fall too!

On Sunday we got up and packed up the car then had a wonderful mexican lunch. Afterwards we shopped some more at the local shops. My big purchase was 3 huge slices of fudge. It was a super good deal but big mistake because I ate it all pretty much by myself!

Later that afternoon we hit the road again to Dalton, GA to visit Lindsay and her little boy Brax. Zoey and Brax really got to enjoy playing with each other this time since Zoey is walking now. It was great just getting to visit with them a bit since they live so far away we don’t get to see them that often.

The weekend flew by but we had a wonderful time on our girls trip to celebrate Dana’s Birthday. A very special Thank You to Dana too for the wonderful weekend and Zoey’s sweet dolls. Zoey is one lucky girl to get presents at Zoey’s birthday. Now I am already starting to think about next year and where we may go! :)

Tadpole Song

12 Sep

So one of the morning routines around the house is to watch Korean videos each morning in bed. Most are little snippets I found on youtube of kids shows or Korean music videos. But this is Zoey’s new favorite one. She is too funny watching it and will watch it over and over! To replay a video on you tube you press the space bar when over. So I guess morning after morning she has seen me do this. And I just happened to catch our smart little booger on video this morning when I was filming her just to capture her dancing and her love for the song so when it was over and her cute little pointer finger reached out and pressed the space bar I was SO impressed! She is her daddy’s little techy for sure!

Here are the videos to enjoy!

Zoey’s Outfit is Cool! :)

19 Aug

So this week I was taking a look a People.com (yes this is one of my guilty pleasures while laying down with Zoey for a nap) but I saw this picture…

See Mc Steamy from Gray’s Anatomy cute little girl’s dress? It is the exact dress we used for Zoey’s family pictures! Not that that makes Zoey cool or anything but I do have to say I got a little giddy once I saw the dress on people. Because I will never have the style to dress like the celebrities but maybe Zoey is on the right track. :)

Seeing this picture also made me realize that I never showed all of you the family pictures we had taken by the wonderful Paula who took our pictures at the airport. Most of you probably will not want to sit and watch all of the many images but since a lot of out of town family looks at our blog I thought I would post them for all of our family to see. So loved ones please me know if there are any of these pictures or any other pics from week to week that all of you want me to print and send to you. We don’t mind at all…

Fly To Seoul!

10 Jun

So far operation stay awake has been going good. We went to the last midnight movie that I will probably be going to for a while. Super 8 was a great ET like movie. But I can’t believe I am finally making this long awaited post…Here we go!!! We are on our way to pick up our baby girl! We plan on updating the blog regularly so check back often for updates and pictures/videos as soon as we have them! :) Please say a prayer for us as we start this journey.

I will leave you with this music video of this song that has been stuck in my head all day. Hopefully it will hold you over till our next post…

A Nice Visit

20 May

Tonight Eric and I went out to dinner with Eric’s aunt Sandy who was in town from Tennessee for the night. It was great getting to visit with her and Eric’s family a bit. After dinner Sandy came back to our house to see Zoey’s nursery and drop off some goodies for Zoey since she will be out of the town for the shower. We had a very nice time catching up and loved the thoughtful gifts. Thanks again Sandy we can’t wait to see you again…hopefully as a family of 3! :)

Getting Ready for Zoey

19 May

Sorry it has been a while since we have posted but we have been VERY busy around here. I mean very, very busy. Last week we made some lists Travel List, Packing List, Shopping List, In Korea List, Airplane List, Baby Proofing List, Leaving List, House Cleaning List, Return Home List. (I told you that I REALLY like lists!) So for the last 10 nights we have been crossing things off the lists! I know all of you probably don’t care much but I have to show you some things we have crossed off…

Laundry Room Shelf above washer and dryer. I covered the plywood with stuffing and fabric so I have a large ironing board and a place to set laundry without it disappearing behind the washer and dryer! :)

Organized every shelf and drawer in our house. For the first time ever I know where every single thing in our house is…down to the tiniest rubberband or book. I even sorted and labeled our medicine!

Every morning it always took me forever to untangle my necklaces so I took this old wooden frame my mom got me from a yardsale and recovered with fabric and put nails in it so I have a perfect necklace frame. I am trying to organize and sort everything I can because I know my time will be limited once baby girl gets here!

We have been deep cleaning big time. Cleaning fans dusted, air filters changed, baseboards vacuumed then washed with pinesol, every single blind in this house was dusted (HUGE PROJECT), washed windows both inside and out, vacuumed EVERYTHING- like even the inside of the couch, dusted, mopped, well as you see this house is all sanitized and spotless. Zoey can eat off of anything and anywhere and be fine! I even took it as far as washing and ironing all the curtains to remove dust and make like new. I have also been doing all the little things that were on my “do one day list” like resew the hem of the curtain was coming out or super gluing the crooked cracked lamp. I have just been trying to do all the things that I have been meaning to get to because if I can’t get to it now I know I will never will once she gets home

We have also been getting things ready outside too. Don’t ask me why but I really felt the need to sew a grill skirt (see below) before she came home. Eric did a really good job edging, weed eating, blowing, and cleaning up our yard. I even mopped the front porch, back patio, and even the garage! I wasn’t kidding earlier when I said that WE CLEANED ANYTHING and EVERYTHING!

As I type this I can finally say after I get this last load of rugs out of the dryer we will officially be ready as far as the babyproofing, projects, and cleaning goes. So why have we been cleaning like a mad women. I think to keep me sane. I was REALLY hoping to have our travel call by now but we don’t have it yet so this is the only thing I can do to keep me from going crazy. If I stopped to think I would just break down and cry. So I must keep my self busy until I get that magic phone call! Another waiting mommy blogger friend of mine over at Waiting for You summed up my feelings that I am trying to stuff so deep down inside. You can check out her blog post here.

Please be praying for us (especially me) as we wait. The wait is SO HARD because she seems SO close yet SO far away…

Happy Mother’s Day + Happy 10 Months Zoey

8 May

One year ago today we announced to our family our plans for adoption. It was an exciting day but this year was even more exciting. I have a face to my little girl. I 100% feel like a mom even though I do not have her in my arms yet. My heart is still with her and I think, wonder, worry, and pray for her all day long. I was worried that this mothers day would be hard for me not having her home but I must have had a lot of people praying for me because I was actually very happy all day.

We started out the day by going to church with Kyler and Felicia. The church we visited with them is not our normal church but a church we listen to a lot of podcast’s of since they very much promote adoption. It was so cool because during the service the wife of the preacher came up to pray for all the ladies. She prayed your typical prayers for moms and for those that have lost their mothers but then she prayed something I have never heard prayed for in church before. She prayed a very special prayer for all the infertile women trying to have babies and who are yet again facing another mother’s day with an unanswered prayer then she prayed for all the adopting mom’s waiting to pick up their little ones. Oh my did the tears stream down my face. She “got it” since she is a waiting mom herself but I don’t think anyone can quite realize what all is going on inside of me right now unless they have gone through it. I wish I could put it into words to describe this joy yet very heartwrenching pain knowing that someone else is raising your baby. But I do know that most things in life are hard and so this is too but at the end it will be SO worth it!

The day was extra special too because it was Zoey’s 10 month birthday! I can’t believe she is already that old. I REALLY hope I have her in my arms by the 11 month mark or you may have to put me in the crazy house!

But anyways…after church Eric took me out to lunch for my special day then we headed back to the house to check some more things off of our list. First (and only) step of the day…baby proofing! It took us all day and to be honest we still are not done. But everything in our house is just about baby proofed. Cabinets, drawers, dressers, shelves, it all is bolted down!

All in all it was a great, productive day! The only drawback was we did not get to see our mom’s. We just had so many things to do and since we saw them the day before at the yardsale they understood. But we are both very blessed to have two great mothers! Zoey is going to LOVE her Nana (Eric’s mom) and Honey (my mom)!
